8 Dead & Several Injured After Gas Cylinder Explosion Causes Building Collapse In Bikaner
The death toll in an explosion in a gas cylinder at the basement of a three-story commercial building in Rajasthan’s Bikaner increased to nine on Thursday (May 8, 2025), while eight persons were injured in the mishap. Over 20 shops at the ground floor and in the basement in Madan Market were damaged in the blast.
The explosion occurred at a jewellery shop in the building on Wednesday, after which three bodies were recovered from the spot. On Thursday, five more bodies were pulled out from the rubble and a 17-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries, leading to an increase in the number of casualties.
The powerful explosion had led to the collapse of roof of the building’s first floor, trapping a large number of people under the debris. The blast, which triggered chaos in the market, occurred in a shop where gold inlay and enamelling work was being carried out. Artisans from Bikaner city and from West Bengal work in the area.
