Over 500 anganwadi workers and assistants staged a sit-in protest in front of the District Collectorate in Thoothukudi on Friday, urging the government to grant them summer vacation for May.
The protest was organised by the Tamil Nadu Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Association, and was led by district president T. Jayarani. District secretary M. Chandra addressed the gathering and outlined the key demands.
The protesters raised slogans and pressed for several long-pending demands, including one month summer vacation in May for the anganwadi workers, timely disbursement of wages and a promotion policy ensuring career progression every five years. They also demanded the immediate filling up of 50,000 vacant posts across Tamil Nadu.
