Be humble: Wasim Akram blasts Abrar Ahmed for send-off to Shubman Gill

The delivery to Shubman Gill from Abrar Ahmed impressed the legendary Wasim Akram, but the leg-spinner’s celebration did not. The fast-bowling great did not hold back, lashing out at Abrar, who fought a lone battle for Pakistan in their disappointing six-wicket defeat to India in the high-stakes Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai on Sunday.

Abrar Ahmed was the only Pakistan bowler who looked threatening in their unsuccessful defence of 241. The leg-spinner controlled the proceedings in the middle overs, trying to prevent Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli from running away with the game after India’s top three had dismantled Pakistan’s pace attack.

In the 17th over, Abrar produced a sharp leg-spinner—arguably a contender for the ball of the tournament—to dismiss a well-set Shubman Gill. It was a bolt from the blue, as Gill and Kohli had been looking comfortable against an uninspiring Pakistan attack. Abrar’s delivery pitched on the leg-stump line, turned sharply, went past an indecisive Gill, and hit the top of off-stump.
