'Close down Parliament if Supreme Court has to make law': BJP

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Jharkhand, Nishikant Dubey, on Saturday (April 19, 2025) added to the war of words raging over the Supreme Court’s pronouncements on the separation of powers between the Legislature, the Executive, and the Judiciary.

“Kanoon yadi Supreme Court hi banayega to Sansad Bhavan bund kar dena chahiye (if laws are to be made by the Supreme Court, then the Parliament building should be shut down),” Mr. Dubey posted in Hindi on social media platform X, without specifying the context or the nature of his objection to the Supreme Court’s recent rulings.

His comment comes against the backdrop of the ongoing hearing in the apex court of several pleas challenging the constitutionality of the Waqf (Amendment) Act passed by Parliament earlier this month.
