Lieutenant Shashank Tiwari of the Sikkim Scouts tragically died in North Sikkim while rescuing a fellow soldier, Agniveer Stephan Subba, from a dangerous mountain stream. Despite successfully saving Subba with the help of Naik Pukar Katel, Lt. Tiwari was swept away by the strong current. "His sacrifice has been hailed nationwide. He stands as a symbol of courage and selflessness,” the defence statement said.
