Kuki-Zo MLAs express hope for peace in Manipur after President rule
The government should put forward a comprehensive political roadmap for peace and justice in Manipur, 10 Kuki-Zo-Hmar member of the legislative assembly (MLAs) said after President’s rule was imposed following chief minister N Biren Singh’s resignation on February 9.
The Centre imposed President’ rule in the state as the ruling BJP failed to find a successor- a move opposed by Meitei organisations based in Imphal Valley. Kuki-Zo groups said that President’s rule was a necessary intervention and was long overdue.
The MLAs acknowledged Centre’s decision to place President’s rule but called for time-bound measures to alleviate the suffering of the conflict-affected and internally displaced people, urging that a lasting resolution be reached to end the hardships faced by the community.
