Wedding gift: DK Shivakumar confirms Ranya Rao’s link to minister’s trust

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday confirmed that there was financial transaction between Home Minister G Parameshwara’s institution and actor Ranya Rao, the prime accused in a gold smuggling case. He, however, clarified that it was a wedding gift to Rao.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided institutions in Karnataka linked to Parameshwara on Wednesday and Thursday in connection with its investigation into the gold smuggling case and possible money laundering.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar said, “There was a marriage. As a gift to people, we sometimes give Rs 10,000, 5 or 10 lakhs. Whatever she has done, that is wrong and the law will take its own course. I just spoke to Parameshwara, and it was a gift.”
